A Derbyshire manufacturer of water treatment systems has been fined £30,000 after a worker sustained head and arm injuries after falling 3.5m from a water treatment tank.
The employee of The DerbyShire Manufacturer, which supplies plant and equipment to the soft drinks and beverage production industries, was performing welding work on top of a large water treatment vessel.
On the day of the accident, 11 November 2015, he had used a ladder to access the top of the vessel, but it was not securely tied. As the employee turned to climb down from the vessel the ladder slipped, causing him to fall.
figures show that around 48,000 people a year in the UK now attend hospital Accident and Emergency departments following a ladder accident in and around the home.
